Follow the sound of the bagpipes! On 25th May 2013, the capital city of Jakarta will come alive with all kinds of Scottish festivities as the 34th Annual Jakarta Highland Gathering gets underway.

Held at the Imperial Klub Golf, Lippo Karawaci, the Jakarta Highland Gathering (JHG) is an annual event that combines traditional Scottish Highland Games with great family fun. Among others, the festival will feature over 50 pipers and drummers, the fantastic Australian Axemen, the Scottish “Heavies” who toss the caber, dancers from all over the world, all day music performances, over 30 great restaurants, a whole kid’s play area, a teen adventure area, and one of the best firework displays in Jakarta.

In the sporting section, the festival presents various competitions including football, rugby, and volleyball. Visitors can also participate in the exciting game of Tug O’ War and watch the fascinating actions of weight throw, stone put, hammer throw, and Woodchoppers.

This year, the gathering will also feature a special performance from Lisa Soul, a young talented Indonesian singer who can play various musical genres such as soul, pop, jazz, blues, and Gospel. As a special addition this year the gathering will also be highlighted with a parade of Harley-Davidson motorcycles which will also mark the opening of the event.

The gathering will be preceded with The Highland Gathering Golf on 23rd May and The JHG Reception and Scotland in Concert on 24th May, while the Kid’s Charity Day will follow the Gathering Day on 26th May.

Jakarta Highland Gathering has been the most attended community event that is purely organized for charitable purposes. Last year, the Jakarta Highland Gathering saw almost 6,000 people through the gate, making it the largest Highland Gathering in the Southern Hemisphere. This unique event is not only a great celebration of Scottish culture, tradition and sports, but also a fantastic day out for the family, and a chance for all Jakartans, whether Indonesian or foreigners, tourists and residents to get together for a really different experience.
