From 22nd to 27th September 2013, the International Wayang Puppet Festival will be held at Gianyar regency at the fabled island of Bali which will be participated by a number of Indonesia's renowned dalang as well as international puppet masters. The event will take place at the Rumah Topeng (Mask House) in Central Banjar Tengkulak, Kemenuh Village, Gianyar Regency.
From the international world, the event will feature Bunkaru from Japan, Khemeid Shad from Iran, Trengganu Cendayu from Malaysia, Usbon Baclajon from the Philippines. Confirmed are also delegates from China, India, and Thailand. As a special feature, Jennifer Woodcaster from the U.S.A will perform the authentic Balinese leather puppet show.
Each artist will be given 30-60 minutes time to showcase their best skills in staging a puppet show. Aside from Wayang performances, the event will also be complemented with a cultural seminar. The seminar will feature some of Indonesia’s renowned artists and cultural figures including Sujiwo Tedjo, Prof.I Nyoman Sedana, and Wayan Nardaya (Cenk Blonk Puppet).
Indonesia, as the home of Wayang art, will present various traditional wayang performances including Wayang Golek (Wooden Puppets) from West Java, Wayang Beber from Wonosari Regency, Wayang Potehi (Chinese Puppets) from Semarang, Wayang kancil (Central Java), Wayang Kampung sebelah (a contemporary form of leather puppet), and Wayang Sasak from Lombok.
